Park Service cracks down on unleashed dogs.Superintendent Mike Murray says there will be “a focused effort this season” at Cape Hatteras National Seashore on requiring that all dogs be leashed so they won’t interfere with nesting shorebirds and sea turtles. Last year, he said, there were over 700 documented cases of unleashed dogs doing damage in nesting areas. “I have directed park staff to step up their efforts to inform pet owners of the federal leash regulation.” Park rangers will issue violation notices carrying a $150.00 fine for a pet owner who does not comply.
