When you live on Hatteras Island, a sand bar 34 miles off the mainland, you see dolphins and other sea creatures pretty frequently. In the summer they say sea turtles are prevalent. AND…of course, everyone has a shark story. The last shark attack here was in 2001. A couple was attacked in Avon only 20 feet or so from the shore. Now I know this was a completely random event and the odds of something like this happening again are extremely rare, but there ARE sharks here. No doubt about it. The local spear fisherman will tell you that when out diving the wrecks, after each kill, the fish is immediately brought to the surface and placed in the boat. This is one place you do not want the scent of blood lingering too long in the water.
I can’t help but think about it.
Stories like this one forwarded to me by a co-worker at REAL fascinate me. Imagine coming eye to eye with a tiger shark…and immediately deciding to kick some ass. Click on the photo to go to the full story.
